Unprecedented defiance: Parents send kids to school one day after separatists attack


Suspected Armed separatist fighters had  torched GS kakar in Ndu, Donga-Mantung Division  North West Region of Cameroon on October 20th 2020 and fired shots. Parts of the school was also set on fire

But in a remarkable show of defiance and purpose, parents of the locality were rather energized to send their kids to school

Pictures of pupils who braved the attack and showed up in the same campus earlier as early as 7:30 AM on October 21st 2020 have gone viral on social media

Many who advocate for school resumption amidst a school ban by armed separatist fighters congratulated the parents for their bravery and say it shows parents are tired of keeping their kids home

Separatist fighters have been fighting against school resumption since the start of the crisis in the country’s English speaking regions of North West and South West

They argue an effective school would send a wrong signal that the crisis is over and some insist they need a differently curriculum which reflects their political aspirations of a new state

Critics   however argue the strategy would backfire, insisting pupils can’t be used for political gains. They insist education is a human right and kids must be allowed to return to the class rolls

School has largely been ineffective for the better part of the two Ferguson’s
