If CAMIFF was ever going to die, it was going to be due to lack of home support, but if it dies in future it might be because of bad decision
The Cameroon’s Films Festival CAMIFF was suppose to be one of the biggest gathering of movie makers and entertainment stakeholders in the continent.
But poor organization, lack of support at home and a resistant crowd has frustrated the dreams of its organizers, reducing the international festival to a Bokwaongo event with its effervescence diminishing within the gates of Mountain Hotel Buea.
No one in Molyko Buea , one kilometer away talks about CAMIFF with the exception of very few entertainment stakeholders and bloggers.
The Anglophone Crisis further worsened the situation, forcing organizers to suspend the gathering for security reasons even as critics say lack of funds was the real threat.
And now we are in 2021, the continuation of a pandemic year and CAMIFF has been scheduled for less than a week.
Organizers are yet to detail to the public how they intend to implement barrier measures instituted by government to fight against a global pandemic which is still very much in place such as no gathering of more than a limited number.
With the degree of recklessness exhibited by some event organizers in recent past, CAMIFF might just turn out to be another avenue to spread different variants of the virus.
