He focused his mind on positive things, and good news, and filtered out a lot of bad information out of his life. It was a counter-cultural move, but through reading his adventures and amazing life, it leads to the natural conclusion that it has improved the quality of his life.
Visual Images are Strong Psychological Effectors
When people are viewing information, and shown graphic images, it has a stronger psychological effect than listening to it, or to reading it on a website. If you have the personal values of keeping up with current affairs, particularly politics or world events, or the stock market, an alternative to the television news is to go to websites of the television and media channels and to get a quick digest of the headlines, so that you are aware of what is going on, but reducing your exposure to negativity.
Evaluating Your Focus
If you are particularly focused on overcoming fear and anxiety, a good allegory from communication theory can help you to feel calm and peaceful. In communication theory, when a person would like to communicate effectively a constructive criticism and offer suggestions for improvement, a general ratio of seven positive comments offered to a person for every negative comment helps to maintain a positive and productive relationship between both parties. Generally it is also good practice to sandwich a criticism in between two complements. You can easily apply this to the information you are focusing on.

If you spend the majority of your time (at least eight percent of it) focusing on whatever is good news, lovely, uplifting and positive, and reducing the element of negative news that you are hearing, you will make great strides towards living a happier, more balanced lifestyle. You don’t have to eliminate awareness of current events, but you can have a peaceful and relaxed lifestyle. It isn’t a lifestyle of ignorance, it is a choice to make your existence more positive, which is a necessity in an environment that has seemingly headed towards chaos. You can be an oasis of calm, and you will find others adopting your lifestyle choices also.
